Leaders of the Awami League on Wednesday submitted nomination papers on behalf of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for Gopalganj-3 constituency.

The AL leaders including Sheikh Kabir Hossain, Sheikh Helal Uddin, Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, Sheikh Salah Uddin Jewel, Sheikh Tanmoy and Shahid Ullah Khandkar were present on the occasion, says a press release.

They handed over the papers to Deputy Commissioner Kazi Mahbubul Alam, Kotalipara Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ferdous Wahid and Tungipara UNO Al Mamun.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been elected member of parliament six times from Gopalganj-3 (Tungipara-Kotalipara) constituency.

Prime Minister’s assistant personal secretary Gazi Hafizur Rahman Liku, special assistant Nazma Akhter, AL district unit president Mahbub Ali Khan, and general secretary GM Shahabuddin Azam were also present on the occasion.

AL advisory council member Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed said that Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has been winning every parliamentary election from this seat since 1986.

“This time she will also be elected with huge votes. The people of Kotalipara-Tungipara will vote in a festive atmosphere on 7 January and elect Sheikh Hasina as their representative to the parliament,” he said.

Former bureaucrat Shahid Ullah Khandaker said this time Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will win more votes from her constituency.

“We, the people of Kotalipara Tungipara, want Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and all the candidates nominated by Awami League to be re-elected and continue the development of the country,” he said.

Meanwhile, four other candidates submitted nomination papers for the same constituency to contest. They are Nizam Uddin Lashkar of Bangladesh Supreme Party, Independent candidate Kamal Hossain, Sheikh Abul Kalam of the National People's Party and Mahabub Mollah of the Zaker Party.
