A discussion meeting was held at the meeting room of the Ministry of Railway in the presence of Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan on Thursday regarding the activation of the out of order Demues ( Diesel -electric multiple unit) trains of Bangladesh Railway using local low cost technology.

In the meeting, Manjur -Ul -Alam Chowdhury, Additional Director General (RS) of Bangladesh Railway presented a powerpoint presentation highlighting the history and future action plan of running the Demues using indigenous technology and Engineer Asaduzzaman highlighted the technical aspects of the local cost-effective technology.

Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan, aware of the whole matter, praised the initiative and directed to activate all out of order Demo trains in phases through short, medium and long- term planning.

For this, he formed a committee with concerned officials of the Railway to prepare a Demues-based condition report and also directed to present a detailed proposal for repairing it it.

Secretary of Railways, Director General of Bangladesh Railway and related officials of Bangladesh Railway were also present in the meeting.

It is also discussed that Demues maintenance is very expensive and difficult with current technology as parts are not available and Demos are on software dependent.

It is to be mentioned here that a Demues train has been activated with indigenous technology and it was inaugurated by the Railway Minister for commercial traffic on September 10 this year. This Demues train is running regularly on Parbatipur-Rangpur route without any problem. It is considered as one of the successes of of Bangladesh Railway engineers led by Monjur-ul-Alam Chowdhury, Additional Director General ( RS) of Bangladesh Railway.

The Bangladesh Railway as well as the Government has saved a huge money by repairing these Demues trains with local and cost effective technology.
