On December 8, 1971, after defeating the liberation forces, the Pakistani forces fled from Pirojpur through Hularhat river port. Pirojpur district was liberated from the enemy.

Since then every year December 8 is being celebrated as Pirojpur Freedom Day. The day was celebrated by the district administration on Monday.

On this day at 9:30 am, a colourful rally was held in front of the Collectorate School organized by the District Administration and the District Unit Command of the Freedom Fighters Sangsad. The rally ends in front of Baleshwar Kheya Ghat Slaughterhouse after circumambulating various places in the city. Later, district administration, district superintendent of police, district freedom fighters and various institutions laid wreaths in memory of the martyrs.

At that time, District Commissioner Abu Saeed, District Superintendent of Police Mohammad Manzoor Ahmed Siddiqui, District BNP Member Secretary Saidul Islam Kismat, District Freedom Fighters Parliament Convenor Ahmed Shahidul Haque Chan, Freedom Fighter and Councilor Abdus Salam Baten, Ex-Commander Fazlul Haque Sentu, Abdur Razzak Munan and veteran freedom fighters including veteran journalist Nasim. Ali, President of Positive Pirojpur Sergeant (Retd) Habibur Rahman, General Secretary Journalist Zubaer Al Mamun, heads of various educational institutions were present.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Abu Saeed said, today is the historic day, the day on which Pirojpur won victory. In 1971, Pakistani invasion forces, Al Badr, Al Shams killed many mothers and sisters and burnt their houses. On this day today Pirojpur won victory after a long struggle. This day is a historic day for Pirojpur.

He also said, respecting the sacrifice of those who liberated Pirojpur, I would like to say,May Allah grant them paradise. May we build a beautiful Pirojpur by embodying the cause for which they sacrificed their lives.

At the end of the ceremony, prayers and prayers were offered for the souls of the martyrs.
