Picnic turns into tragedy in Chattogram

A college picnic turned into tragedy when the bus carrying students met an accident on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway on Friday morning, leaving an individual dead and 10 others injured.
The accident took place in the Mithachhara Bazar area under Mirsharai upazila of Chattogram around 7am.
The detailed identity of the deceased, a mentally challenged man, could not be known immediately.
Seven of the injured are – Shakhawat Hossain, Anik, Nayeem, Borhan, Md Ashik, and Akhi, students of Government Tolaram College in Narayanganj, and bus driver Jashim.
According to the police, the bus was heading towards Rangamati before reaching Cox’s Bazar.
Since the person with a mental disability suddenly appeared on the road, the driver lost control over steering while trying to save him, the police said, adding that the bus hit the man and overturned.
Confirming the casualties, Jorarganj highway police Sub-Inspector Borhan Uddin said the injured were sent to local private hospital and Mirsharai Upazila Health Complex.
