The temperature has dropped again due to the severity of winter In decimal 5 degrees Celsius.

A gentle cold current is again blowing over the upazila. At the beginning of the month, the working, marginalized and low-income people are suffering from the bone-chilling cold in Konkan with such thick fog.

Since yesterday, the temperature has started to drop again, increasing the incidence of cold. Farmers believe that the harshness of winter is affecting Iri-Boro crops. The upazila agriculture department has set a target of 6,750 hectares of land for planting saplings in the current Iri Boro season, but 820 hectares have been achieved due to extra cold.

The minimum temperature recorded in the district was 7.5 degrees Celsius at 9 am on Tuesday (January 23). Meanwhile, as the night and day temperatures are close to each other, it is getting colder till noon. As a result, the workers are sitting at the appropriate time for work.

The sun is not visible most of the day. As the day progresses, the sun spreads some heat, but the temperature drops again in the afternoon. Due to the lack of warm clothes, many people, including the people of Char area, were seen burning straw to warm themselves.

Chilmari upazila administration has so far distributed blankets among 4 thousand and 50 cold people in 6 unions of the upazila.

Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md. Mosharraf Hossain said, we have already distributed 4,500 blankets to the needy people in all the unions through the chairman members. Allotment will be re-distributed if activities are ongoing. We want no poor person to suffer this winter.

Subal Chandra Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Rajarhat Meteorological Office, said that the lowest temperature of the district was recorded at 9 am today at 7.5 degrees Celsius. However, this situation may continue for two more days, he said.
