Sarjis Alam, one of the key student leaders, has termed former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as a pure thug and a murderous dictator and said the existence of the people involved in the July-August mass upsurge will be ruined if she returns to power again.

“Hasina and her close aides are hatching efforts from all corners so that we cannot be successful. If we fail in any way, murderer Hasina will not keep the existence of any of us,” said Sarjis Alam, general secretary of the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation, on Saturday.

While addressing a programme held at Tareq Smriti Auditorium in Mymensingh, he said protecting the spirit and dreams of the July-August mass upsurge is a collective responsibility of people from all walks of life.

Many people were murdered before 5 August but their families were not allowed to bury the bodies of the martyred, he said, adding that killer Hasina and her cohorts will engage in doing the same if they return to power.

“We are extending our all-out efforts to uphold the dreams and spirit of the people who shed blood and sacrificed their lives,” he said after handing over financial assistance to 55 families of the martyrs of the mass upsurge during the programme.

Citing the atrocities indulged by the Awami League government, he said Hasina unleashed the ring of terror in the country to suppress different opinions deliberately.

He also called for justice against those involved in the violent crackdown during the July-August mass upsurge.

“There is ample evidence, including videos and photos against those who participated in the killings, regardless of their affiliation, whether they were leaders of Chhatra League, Jubo League, Awami League, or police officers. We will ensure justice,” he said.
