The district administration seized 210 -kg of rice and 70 kg of flour from the government OMS during a raid in the Jhenaidah Bus Stand Para area of Chuadanga town.

In this incident, the OMS dealer Sohel Ahmed Malik Sujon, the organizing secretary of Chuadanga Municipality BNP, has been fined Tk 50,000.

On Wednesday at 4 pm, a drive conducted by the district administration recovered an Alam Sadhu (a diesel-powered van) filled with government rice and flour from the Jhenaidah Bus Stand Para area. Later, investigation confirmed that the recovered food items were products of the government's OMS program.

It is learned that Sohel Ahmed Malik Sujan (47), an OMS dealer of ward number 7 of Chuadanga Municipality and the organizing secretary of the municipal BNP, was taking his OMS warehouse to Satgari in Alam Sadhu, even though it was in the old stadium area of Chuadanga town. At that time, based on secret information, a police team led by the Executive Magistrate of the District Administration and Deputy Collector of Nezarat Alauddin Al Azad conducted a raid. In the raid, 7 sacks of government OMS rice and 2 sacks of flour were recovered from Alam Sadhu. The food items recovered included 210 kg of rice and 70 kg of flour.

In this incident, Sohel Ahmed Malik Sujan, an OMS dealer of Ward No. 7 of Chuadanga Municipality and the organizing secretary of the municipal BNP, was fined Tk 50,000 under Section 45 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009, son of Shamsul Haque Malik, a resident of Jhenaidah Bus Standpara area.

During the operation, a crowd of eager people gathered at the spot. They thanked the administration for confiscating the rice and demanded punishment for the dealer. There was anger among the locals over allegations that they were trying to illegally sell rice and flour from the government food assistance program in the hope of making more profit.

After the campaign, Executive Magistrate Alauddin Al Azad said, "Rice and flour from the government food assistance program cannot be sold or smuggled illegally in any way. The district administration's campaign against such irregularities will continue regularly."
