Not Kacchi Bhai, fire erupts from ground floor shop

Director General (DG) of Rapid Action Battalion M Khurshid Hossain said that the origin of the fire that broke out at the seven-story Green Cozy Cottage Shopping Mall on Bailey Road was first reported from the ground floor of the building.
The RAB DG disclosed this information at a press briefing organised at the Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute on Friday (1 March).
He said, “First, we have heard that the fire erupted from the 'Kacchi Bhai’ restaurant. But later, came to know that the fire erupted from a shop on the ground floor of the building.
The RAB DG said the fire erupted first at a small shop on the ground floor. They initially brought the fire under control with fire extinguishers. But later the gas cylinder exploded and the fire spread. Most people died of smoke inhalation.
Health Minister Samanta Lal Sen has said at least 46 dead in the devastating fire. He also said that the people undergoing treatment are in critical condition. The death toll from the blazing inferno kept climbing through the night, and is likely to rise further.
