Non-payment of claims : Case against 5 including MD, DMD of Padma Life Insurance in Lakshmipur

Padma Islami Life Insurance has been accused of haranguing and harassing hundreds of customers to pay their claims even after expiry.

It has been alleged that the Bangladesh Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA) hotline has received no response despite repeated complaints from customers.

A customer filed a case in Lakshmipur court for harassment and fraud for not paying money for a long time.

On July 03 (Wednesday) noon, Md Shahjahan, son of deceased Tofail Ahmed of Garndhabyapur village of Sadar Upazila, filed this case against 5 people including the company's managing director, DMD, in charge of Noakhali and Laxmipur offices in the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court.

Court Judge Abu Yusuf took cognizance of the case and ordered the OC of the District Intelligence Department to investigate and take action.

Plaintiff of the case Md Shahjahan said, almost 2 years are going to end after our deposit of 1 lakh, the people of the company have not paid my money yet. Their Lakshmipur and Mandari offices are closed. The mobile phones of the officers and employees have already been given notice to the company, but the company is not paying the money. They have repeatedly harassed and cheated me.

Lawyers of Laxmipur Judge Court Mohsin Kabir Murad and Rezaul Islam Khan said that Padma Islami Life Insurance in Laxmipur is not paying money even after the expiry of many customers. After we have given several notices to the lawyers on behalf of many customers, they have not paid the money, one customer has filed a case in the court after being repeatedly cheated.

Meanwhile, when going to the office of the insurance company on the fourth floor of Ekta Super Market in Lakshmipur district, the door was found to be locked. At that time, no signboard with the name of the company was seen outside.

However, the manager of another insurance company, who did not want to be named, said that Padma's office was in Bagbari area. From there Ekta came to the supermarket. But their office was never seen to open.

Even after several calls to the mobile phone of the officer in charge, there was no response. The mobile phone of Mustafa Kamal, an official of the same office, was found switched off.

In this regard Padma Life Insurance Ltd.: Azghar Ali of the Head Office (AVP) said that the customer's case is not known.

Managing Director Noor Mohammad Bhuiyan was contacted on the official number and his PS said he was in a meeting and could not speak.
