Following the recent mass uprising that led to the fall of the government, over 40 officials at Begum Rokeya University (BRU), including the then Vice-Chancellor, Proctor, and Treasurer, simultaneously resigned. In mid-September, Professor Dr. Md. Showkat Ali from Dhaka University's Department of Applied Mathematics was appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of BRU. Although several vacant positions have since been filled, the post of Treasurer has remained vacant for four months.

Teachers, students, and staff have urged the swift appointment of a Treasurer to ensure smooth administrative functioning. Many have suggested that the appointment should be made from among the university’s own faculty, believing it would contribute significantly to the university's development.

Student representative Khokon Islam from the Anti-Discrimination Movement remarked, "The current Vice-Chancellor is student-friendly and determined to improve BRU, which is commendable. To assist him in addressing internal development needs and student aspirations, it would be both timely and effective to appoint a capable professor from within BRU as Treasurer. Since 2009, Treasurers have been appointed from outside the university.

Echoing this sentiment, Farzana Jannat Toshi, a faculty member in the Statistics Department, said, “Following the uprising, other universities saw swift appointments of Vice-Chancellors. However, it took more than a month to appoint Dr. Showkat Sir as our VC. Similarly, crucial positions like Treasurer and a few others remain vacant, which hampers administrative efficiency.

She added, “To bring overall administrative dynamism to the university, it is imperative to appoint a Treasurer. Furthermore, the appointed individual must work with integrity. I believe BRU has numerous capable teachers who can serve as Treasurer.

Another key university coordinator, Arman Hossain, stated, “Even after a long period since the movement, critical administrative positions such as Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Treasurer remain vacant. This has slowed down administrative work significantly.

Commenting on the matter, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Md. Showkat Ali said, “Since my appointment, I have been working tirelessly for the development of BRU as if it were my own institution.
