Night curfew imposed along Sylhet border

Due to the ongoing situation in Bangladesh and the risk of illegal infiltration, the district administration of East Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya has imposed a nighttime curfew along the India-Bangladesh international border.
Lieutenant Colonel Zubayer Anwar, Commander of the Jakiganj-19 Battalion under the BGB Sylhet Sector, confirmed the matter on Friday night.
He stated that the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has alerted border residents regarding this.
The curfew was issued under Section 163, as per an order signed by District Magistrate Shri Shivansh Awasthi.
The order states that the night curfew will be effective daily from 8 PM to 6 AM, applicable within 500 meters from the Zero Line of the border.
Activities completely prohibited under this curfew include crossing the international border to enter Bangladesh or illegally entering India.

The order highlights that the border area, being entirely unfenced, has become a vulnerable entry point for smugglers, illegal infiltrators, and members of banned militant groups.
This measure has been taken to maintain peace and order. The order is effective immediately and will remain in force until further notice.
