Dhaka Bank Chairman Abdul Hai Sarkar has been elected as the Chairman of Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB), an organization of private bank entrepreneurs. He replaced Exim Bank's former chairman Nazrul Islam Majumdarr.

Besides, First Security Islami Bank Chairman Abdul Mannan and Bank Asia Chairman Romo Rauf Chowdhury became the vice-chairman of BAB. In the general meeting of BAB on Monday, a new committee was formed by making them chairman and vice chairman.

After 17 years, new leadership came to the organization. Nazrul Islam Mazumder was the chairman from January 2008. Bangladesh Bank removed him from the post of director and chairman of Exim Bank after the change of government. Because of this, he also lost the chairmanship of BAB.

At the same time, several members of the committee, including two vice-chairmen of BAB, lost their positions as directors of the bank. Abdus Samad Labu, the former chairman of Al-Arafah Islami Bank, was the vice chairman of this committee. He is the brother of Saiful Alam, Chairman of S Alam Group. The other vice chairman was United Commercial Bank (UCB) vice chairman Anisuzzaman Chowdhury. He is the brother of former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury. Bangladesh Bank has also removed them from their respective banks.

The new chairman Abdul Hai Sarkar was born in Sirajganj. He is the former chairman of Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA); Former Vice President of Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB) and former Director of Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI).
