Nominated candidate of Bangladesh Awami League and several times elected general secretary of district Awami League and former chairman of Zilla Parishad Md Nazrul Islam has been re-elected as chairman in Satkhira Zilla Parishad elections.

His symbol was the motorcycle. He got 608 votes. His only rival M Khalilullah Jharu got 447 votes. Satkhira District Magistrate and Returning Officer Mohammad Humayun Kabir announced the result after the counting of votes on Monday (October 17).

According to the results obtained, Md Nazrul Islam got 88 votes in Asashuni, Khalilullah Jharu 58 votes, Md Nazrul Islam 105 votes in Tala, Khalilullah Jharu 54 votes, Md Nazrul Islam 94 votes in Kalaroa, Khalilullah Jharu 78 votes, Debhata Md Nazrul Islam 18 votes, Khalilullah Jharu 50 votes, In Shyamnagar Md Nazrul Islam 91 votes, Khalilullah Jharu 64 votes, in Kaliganj Md Nazrul Islam 96 votes, Khalilullah Jharu 63 votes in Satkhira Sadar Md Nazrul Islam got 116 votes and Khalilullah Jharu 80 votes. Out of total 1059 votes, 1055 people exercised their right to vote. Free, fair and impartial election of Satkhira Zilla Parishad was held on October 17 from 9 am under tight and unprecedented security.

Satkhira Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Humayun Kabir and Superintendent of Police Kazi Moniruzzaman visited various polling stations in the district since morning. Spontaneous turnout of voters was observed at every polling station in the district.

When the concerned election officials explained the EVM, they voted for the candidate of their choice accordingly.

Inspection of the polling stations showed unprecedented security inside and outside. Besides BGB, police, RAB and Ansar members, detectives in plain clothes were on patrol.
