Nawab Faizunnessa Zamindarbari Museum in Cumilla opens

Cumilla Correspondent

Nawab Faizunnessa Zamindarbari Museum of Cumilla has finally been opened, the 'Nawab Faizunnessa Zamindar Bari Museum' in Laksam, Cumilla , which houses the memory of Nawab Faizunnessa, the pioneer of women's movement and the only female Nawab of the Indian subcontinent, has been opened to the visitors. After lying in neglect for a long time, the British-era house was finally opened on Monday. This historic house is one of the most beautiful houses in Asia.

Local Government Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam inaugurated Nawab Faizunnessa Zamindar Bari Museum as a branch of Bangladesh National Museum on Monday afternoon. Secretary of the Ministry of Culture Khalil Ahmad, Director General of Bangladesh National Museum Md. Kamruzzaman, Chief Engineer of Directorate of Education and Engineering Md. Delwar Hossain Majumdar, Deputy Commissioner of Cumilla Khandkar Md. Mushfiqur Rahman, Superintendent of Police Abdul Mannan, Chairman of Laksam Upazila Parishad were present as special guests in the event organized on this occasion.

Advocate Yunus Bhuiyan, Waqf Administrator Ghiyas Uddin and Nawab Faizunnessa Government College Principal Professor (Major) Mita Safinaz presided over it. The program was jointly organized by Directorate of Education and Engineering, Comilla and Nawab Faizunnessa Government College, Laksam under the initiative of Bangladesh Ministry of National Museum and Cultural Affairs.

In the opening ceremony, Minister Tajul Islam said that people of all walks of life will be able to know about the historical role played by the noble woman Nawab Faizunneza Laksam in the development of women's education throughout the country.

The historical Nawab Faizunnecha's house is situated on the banks of Dakatiya River in the Paschimgaon area of Laksam Municipality in Cumilla . Beside it, there are Nawab Faizunnessa Government College founded by Faizunnessa Chaudhurani, Nandnik Mosque, Nawab Faizunnessa and Badrunnesa High School, Paschimgaon Model Government Primary School, mass-cemetery and various other establishments.

There is disagreement about the year of construction of the traditional Nawab house. It is said that after 17 years of marriage, Nawab Faizunnecha Chaudhurani, the only woman in the subcontinent, came to know that her husband Hasan Ali Zamindar had another wife. Nawab Faizunnessa, who had a great personality, self-respect, and determination, could not accept this. He built this house for separate living on 3.5 acres of land with 1 lakh 1 rupees of his marriage cabin. It takes about 3 years to build the house.

The house was built with cement, rods, lime and mortar during the British period. On the west side of the house is a family mosque with 10 domes and an impeccable architectural style. Next to the mosque is the family graveyard, where Nawab Faizunnesha and other descendants of his family lie in eternal sleep.

Nawab Faizunnecha Chaudhurani was very pious. He used to sit in this house from behind the curtain and manage all the public welfare activities including roads, bridges, schools and madrasas. Over time, the house became widely known as a historical house in the country and abroad. Before his death, Nawab Faizunneza bequeathed the house to the government.
