The interim government will not be pardoned if it fails in its mission to build a new Bangladesh, Ali Reaz, vice chairman of the National Consensus Commission, said on Saturday.
“We reached here at the cost of many lives and long-time movement. The nation vests its responsibility upon us to build a new Bangladesh. We will not be pardoned if our initiatives fail,” he said.
The government-formed six reform commissions have already outlined the frameworks in their recommendations and now the government's task is to reach a national consensus to implement the recommendations, he said.
While addressing the first meeting of the National Consensus Commission held at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka, he said reform is a continuous process and it will not get momentum unless it begins its journey.
“We will hold dialogue with political parties and their alliances to reach a national consensus,” Reaz, also chief of the Constitution Reform Commission, said during the meeting.
“Since the government and political parties share a common goal of holding the national election as soon as possible, we can work together through formal and uninterrupted communication. Formation of a national charter is possible based on dialogue,” he said.
