A day before the polling, Cumilla's Nangalkot Upazila Parishad has been suspended by the Election Commission on the orders of the court. Election Commission Deputy Secretary Md. Atiyar Rahman signed an order on Monday evening suspending the election, the commission gave this instruction. Confirming the matter on Monday night, Senior Election Officer of Cumilla , Md. Munir Hossain Khan, said that the Election Commission has given this instruction on the order of the court as a candidate has withdrawn his candidature on the order of the court. In the first phase, campaigning for Nangalkot upazila election on May 8 ended on May 6.

According to the sources of the Election Commission, the nomination papers of female vice chairman candidate Saleha Begum were canceled during the verification process in the Nangalkot Upazila Parishad elections. Saleha Begum filed a writ petition in the High Court to regain her candidature and on April 25, the High Court Division declared the nomination paper of Saleha Begum valid and ordered the allocation of symbols.

The Election Commission appealed to the Appellate Division against this order of the High Court and the order of May 6 was upheld. In this situation, the Election Commission has decided to postpone the Nangalkot Upazila Parishad election until further instructions are given to implement the order of the Appellate Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court.

Note, the nomination letter of Saleha Begum was canceled as she submitted her nomination for the post of upazila female vice chairman without resigning from the position of member (member) of Periya Union Parishad of Nangalkot upazila. Saleha Begum said, I have filed a writ in the High Court to get my candidature back. But I have not yet resigned from the post of UP member. Till the date of postponement of the elections, 3 candidates for the post of chairman of Nangalkot Upazila Parishad, 4 candidates for the post of male vice chairman and 3 candidates for the post of female vice chairman were campaigning.
