Mahbubur Rahman Tipu, Dohar (Dhaka)

Prominent co-operator Nafiz Uddin Chowdhury has been elected President of the National Rural Development Co-operative Federation through a direct election representing nearly two crore farmer co-operative members, 90 thousand primary co-operative societies, and 489 upazila central co-operative societies across the country recently. 

Chowdhury contested for the top post of the national apex organization representing the Central Co-operative Society Limited (BRDB) of Dohar upazila. A long-standing figure in grassroot co-operative movements, Chowdhury previously served as the elected president of the Dohar Upazila Central Co-operative Society Limited (BRDB) for seven terms, transforming Dohar UCCA-BRDB into a model co-operative institution within Dhaka district.

In addition to his career in co-operative administration and business, Chowdhury’s leadership background traces back to his student life, during which he served two terms as General Secretary of the Joypara Government College unit of Chhatra Dal and was elected Assistant General Secretary (AGS) of the college student union. Beyond his organizational contributions, he is widely recognized in the Dohar region for his philanthropic patronage of local educational, religious, and socio-cultural institutions, alongside active relief support during times of crisis including the COVID-19 pandemic.

Having formally assumed duties as President of the Bangladesh National Rural Development Co-operative Federation on May 20, Chowdhury has been leading organizational initiatives across field-level cooperatives. Addressing the operational context, Nafiz Uddin Chowdhury noted that policy hesitation, bureaucratic complexity, and marginalization of the co-operative sector have historically stymied positive development initiatives, affirming his commitment to overcoming administrative challenges to empower grassroot farmer co-operatives nationwide.
