Munshiganj-2 (Tongibari-Louhjang) constituency MP Abdus Salam Azad visited the Kandarbari affected by river erosion in Dighirpar Union of Tongibari Upazila of Munshiganj on Saturday noon.

He visited the area affected by river erosion and exchanged views with local residents. During this time, he assured of taking immediate effective measures to protect the suffering of the people affected by river erosion, their homes and agricultural lands, and taking necessary initiatives for the construction of the long-standing demand of Dighirpar Bridge.

During the visit, a memorandum with public signatures demanding the construction of a bridge at Dighirpar was handed over to MP Abdus Salam Azad in the presence of people from all walks of life demanding the prevention of river erosion and the construction of a bridge at Dighirpar. The memorandum mentioned that the vast area including Kandarbari is under threat due to the continuous erosion of the Padma River. Thousands of people spend their days in fear of river erosion every monsoon season.

Besides, the locals have been demanding the construction of a bridge at Dighirpar for a long time. According to the locals, due to the lack of a bridge, students, farmers, businessmen, employees and the general public are facing extreme suffering every day. The communication system becomes even more disrupted during the monsoon season.

MP Abdul Salam Azad listened attentively to the statements of the locals and visited various places affected by river erosion.

Tongibari Upazila BNP President Ali Asgar Ripon Mallick, Dighirpar Union BNP President Shamim Mollah, Upazila Jubo Dal Joint General Secretary Likhon Khan, local BNP and its affiliated organizations leaders and activists, dignitaries and a large number of locals were present at the time.
