Modern Pythian Games Bangladesh chapter starts its journey : Commitment to revive lost traditional games

'Modern Pythian Games' officially started its journey in Bangladesh with commitment to revive traditional games which were lost in the course of time in Bangladesh .

The organization's Bangladesh activities were launched at the National Press Club in the city on Saturday afternoon.

The 'Modern Pythian Games' T-shirt wrap was also unveiled at this time.

Those concerned said that it will operate as a non-profit, non-political, non-religious and non-sectarian organization.

Modern Pythian Games Founder Bijender Goel addressed the press conference. International Pythian Council Director Lalita Goel and Pithian Games Bangladesh Chapter President Selina Akhter Shampa and many others were present.

Anwar Haque, Director of Media, Communication and Outreach Affairs of Pythian Games Bangladesh Chapter presented the concept of Pythian Games in the beginning.

He said, 'Modern Pythian Games' is working as a platform to practice indigenous art, culture and traditional sports at the international level."

There is evidence that ancient Greece held competitions in athletics, theater, music, poetry and painting to praise the Fod Apollo.

The Pythian Games originated from the Panhellenic Games. The Panhellenic Games are the collective term for four separate sporting festivals held in ancient Greece. Which includes - 'Pythian Games', 'Olympic Games', 'Nemean Games' and 'Isthmian Games'.

The Pythian Games were lost in the course of time. Indian citizen Vijender Goyal presented the concept of the modern Pythian Games at the Annual General Meeting of the Delphi Economic Forum held in Delphi, Greece on 7 April 2022, where Bijender Goel was recognized as the 'founder' of the modern Pythian Games.

Bijender Goel said in the press conference, "It is a great honor for me. Because I am speaking on the soil of this Bengal. I remember the legends of Bengal, Rabindranath Tagore, poet Kazi Nazrul Islam."

Bijender Goel, who came up with the idea of Modern Pythian Games during Covid-19, said, "The impact of Covid has taught us to rethink many things. We have to face many more challenges in the future world."

Contrasting the Olympic Games with the Pythian Games, Bijender Goel l said, "The Olympic Games are only part of sports. But the modern Pythian Games have - painting, music, folk sports."

He also expressed optimism that Bangladesh will lead the world in the Pythian Movement.

Those concerned said that the activities of modern Pythian games will continue with eight creative areas. The areas are – Music, Performing Arts and Visual Arts, Social and Traditional Arts, Language and Literature, Architecture and Ecology, Robotics and Digital Arts, Martial Arts and Traditional Games.

So far the phrase 'Modern Pythian Games' has been used everywhere in Bengali pronunciation, but it is also reported that from now on it will be called 'Adhunik Pythian Games'.

President of Bangladesh Chapter of Pythian Games Selina Akhtar Shampa said, Thank you all for joining this event.

About the plans for the coming days of the Pythian Games in Bangladesh, Media Director Anwar Haque said, "Our aim now is to organize the organization.

We will work on competition, research and communication. We will work continuously on various traditional sports as well as art and culture, soon everyone will see, he added.
