BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today called upon all to stay united shunning the path of blaming each other.
"There is an attempt to create anarchy in the country which is in no way good for independence, democracy and stability of Bangladesh," he said while addressing a memorial meeting on Pilkhana tragedy at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) auditorium here.
BNP Standing Committee Members Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed and Selima Rahman, Chairperson’s Adviser Abdus Salam, Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal President Istiak Aziz Ulfat and Jubo Dal President Abdul Monayem Munna also spoke on the occasion.
The then RAB-2 Commander Lt. Col. (retd) Shamsuzzaman Khan and the then BDR Director General Major General late Shakil Ahmed's son Rakin Ahmed Bhuiyan were present, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Mirza Fakhrul said that an opportunity was created in Bangladesh following the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to build up a new democratic state.
“However, a conspiracy is being hatched to destroy that opportunity again...Sheikh Hasina and the Awami League are conspiring against the country,” he alleged.
The BNP secretary general urged the interment government to run the government with a firm hand. He urged the Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus to run the government such a way so that none can get scope to say their activities as biased.
Addressing the Chief Advisor, he further said, "Our expectation from you is to maintain complete impartiality and move forward on the path of elections after completing the minimum reforms as soon as possible. Let stability and peace return to the country through a fair election.”
Noting that a smear campaign is underway on social media to malign BNP, Mirza Fakhrul asked party men to stay patient and fight these conspiracies on social media.
Highlighting the role of the army in the Great War of Liberation, Mirza Fakhrul said, in 1971, when the entire nation was confused, when the Pakistan army attacked and committed genocide, an Army Major Ziaur Rahman declared independence and inspired the entire nation to join the war.
“This time, the army has also played the role of a patriotic force in the students led mass movement,” he added.
