Metro rail service won’t resume Saturday

The metro rail service will not resume on Saturday as the authorities have yet to be able to start the necessary technical tests.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd (DMTCL) informed this through a press release on Thursday.
It said the government on August 11 instructed it to resume the operations of MRT Line-6 also known as metro rail after completing the technical tests.
But due to ‘unavoidable reasons’, the necessary technical tests could not be started yet, read the statement. The authority could not mention any new date for resuming operations.
Sources at the DMTCL said the elevated rail services are not possible to resume at the moment as a group of employees are observing work abstention to press home their six-point demand, including salary and allowance hikes.
The metro rail operations remained suspended from July 18 amid violence centring the Quota Reform Movement that toppled Sheikh Hasina’s regime.
The two stations in Mirpur-10 and Kazipara were vandalized on July 19.
