
Medical student dies while hiking in Bandarban

A medical student died while hiking in Alikadam upazila of Bandarban district in the early hours of Saturday.
Deceased, Iftekharul Ahmed Abid, 20, was son of Md. Helal Uddin from Gandhina area under Kalihati upazila in Tangail. Abid was a first-year student at Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College.
Citing the victim's friends, Lama Police Station officer-in-charge Sheikh Shamim said that the student experienced seizures while camping on Marayangtang Hill on Friday night. He was rushed to Lama Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.
One of the members of the travel group, Nafiz Hasan Abid, mentioned that they had come to Alikadam in Bandarban from Kalihati, Tangail, on Friday to spend the Eid holidays. The group of 12 friends set up a camp on Marayangtang Hill in the night.
"At around 12:30am, Abid suddenly started having seizures. We took him to the Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead," he said.
Dr. Zunaid from the health complex stated, "He had already passed away before arriving at the hospital."
OC Shamim added that they took the body in police custody and the family has been informed.
The body will be handed over to the family after the completion of legal procedures, he added.
