Masud-Ponty panel wins landslide victory in N'ganj Press Club election

In a festive and competitive atmosphere, the biennial general meeting and election for the Executive Committee of the Narayanganj Press Club (2025–2027) were held. In the election, Abu Saud Masud (Amar Desh) was elected president and Afzal Hossain Ponty (Bangla Vision) was elected general secretary, along with the full panel achieving victory.

 

The general meeting was held on Friday  from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by the voting session from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Press Club premises. Out of 79 eligible voters, 76 cast their votes. Among them, 7 votes were declared invalid. After the counting, Election Commission Chairman Probir Kumar Saha announced the results.

 

The election was observed by Superintendent of Police Pratyush Kumar Majumder and RAB-11 Battalion Commander Lt. Colonel A.H.M. Sajjad Hossain. Senior officials from the National Security Intelligence (NSI), Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), and the police were also present.

 

According to the results: President: Abu Saud Masud won with 43 votes. His closest rival Mahbubur Rahman Masum received 16 votes, and Khandakar Shah Alam received 10 votes. General Secretary : Afzal Hossain Ponty secured victory with 52 votes. His nearest competitor Rafiqul Islam Rafik got 17 votes.Vice President : Billal Hossain Robin won with 44 votes. His closest rivals were Nafiz Ashraf (21 votes) and Ohidul Haque Khan (4 votes).

 

Joint Secretary : Ahsan Sadiq Shawon won by a landslide with 57 votes. His opponent Hasan Arif got 12 votes.Treasurer: Anisur Rahman Jewel won with 53 votes. His rival Yusuf Ali Atom received 16 votes. Sports and Cultural Secretary: Lutfur Rahman Kakon secured 55 votes, defeating Deepak Kanti Bhowmik who received 14 votes.

 

For the Executive Member posts, the elected members are: Rafiqul Islam Jibon with 67 votes (highest), Arif Alam Dipu with 50 votes, Abdus Salam with 44 votes, A.K.M. Mahfuzur Rahman with 43 votes, Pronob Krishna Roy with 42 votes

 

Newly elected President Abu Saud Masud remarked, “This victory belongs to all members of the club. We called for unity, and our members responded. We are committed to the development of the club. As always, Narayanganj Press Club will continue to play a role in the progress of Narayanganj.” He expressed gratitude to the election commission for conducting a fair and smooth election.

 

General Secretary Afzal Hossain Ponty said, “The trust that the voters have placed in us, we will honor it. We will work unitedly for the rights and professional development of journalists.” He also sought everyone’s cooperation.

 

The Election Commission was chaired by Probir Kumar Saha, with members Mohammad Masuduzzaman and Advocate Nabi Hossain.
