The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has started investigating the known non-income assets of former Food Minister Qamrul Islam, former mayor of Ramgati municipality of Laxmipur Mejbah Uddin Meju and former mayor of Madan of Netrakona district Abdul Hannan Talukder.

This information was revealed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) recently.

According to sources, the former member of parliament of Dhaka-2 seat. Kamrul Islam has built up a lot of wealth in his own name, in the name of his wife and children in the country and abroad.

During his tenure as Minister of State for Law, he accepted crores of rupees in bribes through corruption and irregularities in the appointment of most of the employees in the lower courts. He embezzled billions of government money by purchasing low quality wheat from Brazil through corruption.

Construction of 4 storey house at 48/1, Azgar Lane in own name, two flats in Mirpur residential area, 4 kata land in Mirpur Housing Estate in own name, 10 kata land in New Town and two Toyota Land Cruiser cars Dhaka Metro-G, 15-7707 and Dhaka Metro-D, 12-1435.

According to the ACC sources, Qamrul Islam and his other relatives have acquired a lot of known non-income assets through irregularities and corruption. In addition to this, the detectives have received information that a large amount of money has been smuggled abroad.

Mejbah Uddin Meju, since being elected as the Mayor of Lakshmipur's Ramgati Municipality, has acquired a large amount of known non-income wealth in his own name and on behalf of other persons, through political influence, irregularities in various developmental works and influence in educational institutions.

His cash, non-agricultural land and land in his wife's name, earned money illegally by raising bills by showing fake bill vouchers and leasing various market ghats to his own people instead of doing various developmental projects of Ramgati Municipality. Detectives have received information that he has acquired wealth in his own name, in the names of his wife and other relatives.

ACC sources also said that Mayor Abdul Hannan Talukder of Madan Municipality of Netrakona district has embezzled government funds through various abuse of power and nepotism through party/various relatives. Madanpur municipality has leased the haats/bazars and stands in the name of close people without following proper rules. He and his brother jointly embezzled the rental money of the haat/bazaar and stands without depositing it in the government treasury.

By abusing his power, he bought several lands of Madanpur municipality for several crores of rupees and built several structures. Alishan Bari was built at the cost of crores of rupees in his village house.

He bought about 5 acres of land in his house for 2 crore taka.
