Martyred President Ziaur Rahman established multi-party system, full democracy : Minister Zahid Hossain

Martyr President Ziaur Rahman served for only three and a half years. Within three and a half years, he put a bottomless pit under the floor and fully introduced multi-party democracy in Bangladesh, standing on the grave of the one-party regime. Martyr President Ziaur Rahman established multi-party governance, that is, democracy, in full. All newspapers were closed. All those newspapers were opened and freedom of expression was practiced. Martyr President Ziaur Rahman created the billions of dollars worth of ready-made garments that are being exported by the garment industry today.
He served his duty to bring order to the chaotic nation. Martyr President Ziaur Rahman declared independence and the common people jumped into the great war of independence believing in him. The common people brought BNP to power by trusting the party established by Martyr President Ziaur Rahman.
BNP National Standing Committee member and Minister for Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain MP made these remarks at a workers' meeting organized by Ward 1 to 9 BNP under the jurisdiction of the Municipal BNP at the Pilot High School grounds in Birampur Municipality, Dinajpur on Friday afternoon.
The minister said, during the nine years of Ershad's dictatorship, the people of Bangladesh have strengthened the BNP across the country under the leadership of Begum Khaleda Zia. In 1991, when the country's situation was deplorable after the fall of Ershad's dictatorship, Begum Khaleda Zia fully established parliamentary democracy.
Birhampur Municipality Ward 3 BNP President Mohibur Elahi Chowdhury Robin presided over the workers' meeting, which was moderated by General Secretary Mostafizur Rahman Nayan. Municipal BNP President Humayun Kabir and General Secretary Rezaul Karim Reju were present as special guests. Party workers and primary members of 9 wards of the municipality presented their organizational statements.
