Sarjis Alam, General Secretary of the July Martyr Memorial Foundation, alleged that many within the state structure still do not want the July-August revolution to endure.
He made the remarks on Tuesday (November 26) at a cheque distribution ceremony for the families of martyrs of the anti-discrimination student movement of July-August.
The event was jointly organized by the National University and the July Martyr Memorial Foundation at the International Mother Language Institute in Segunbagicha, Dhaka.
He said, “We still see irregularities in governance because, for the past 16 years, the beneficiaries of the old system have been deeply embedded. They are now hiding in different forms, or like chameleons, they have changed their appearances. These individuals often neglect their responsibilities when it comes to dealing with logical demands from the state structure.
“When we visit the Secretariat with files concerning martyrs' families and fellow fighters, we face negligence and obstacles. Many within the system still resist the idea of this revolution surviving,” he said.
The event was presided over by National University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. ASM Amanullah. Senior Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division, Siddiq Zobair, and Chief Executive of the July Martyr Memorial Foundation, Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho, were also present.
At the event, cheques worth Tk3 lakh from the National University and Tk5 lakh from the July Martyr Memorial Foundation were handed over to 25 martyr families.
