Malaysia has repatriated 22 Bangladeshi nationals after they completed their sentences for various offences.
They were sent back from the Pekan Nanas Detention Camp in the Johor state by the Immigration Department on Friday.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Johor Immigration Department said that the individuals were repatriated after their citizenship was verified by their respective embassies, in accordance with Malaysia's Immigration Act 1959/63, Immigration Regulations 1963, and other enforcement agency laws.
In addition to the 22 Bangladeshis, the camp also repatriated 30 Indian, 25 Indonesian, 20 Nepalese, 11 Pakistani, eight Sri Lankan, five Thai, and four Filipino nationals. All of them have been blacklisted to prevent future re-entry into Malaysia.
Earlier, in several phases, the Immigration Department repatriated 433 individuals, including Bangladeshis, from the same detention camp.
