Lawmaker Azim murder: Three DB officials to visit India soon

Staff Correspondent

A three-member team of detectives will leave for India soon to investigate the murder of lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar, said Harun Or Rashid, chief of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

He told this while speaking at a press briefing held at DB Conference room in the capital on Saturday afternoon.

The delegation will be led by DB chief Harun or Rashid.

Harun said a government order has been issued in this regard and he will join two others during the visit on Saturday night or Sunday morning.
He said a four-member team of West Bengal CID is now staying in Bangladesh to investigate the killing. As soon as they end their part of investigation here, the DB team will go to India, Harun added.

Harun Or Rashid told the journalists that no specific reason has been found yet behind the killing of Jhenaidah-4 lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar. There might be many reasons, including business transactions and establishing supremacy behind the killing of the lawmaker, he said.

Replying to a question why police termed it a murder whereas no body was found, Harun said there are so many cases where the body has not been found for years.

Harun said the killers had planned to kill the lawmaker Anar two times on January or before the national elections. As they failed to execute their plans, the killers took last initiative in Kolkata.

According to the plan, the killers took MP Anar to the flat and then the killers took one of his phones and went to another place to dodge that he was in another place. Besides, the killers came to the Benapole bordering area with four mobile phone sets after killing him and then called to different political rivals to implicate them in the murder,” the DB chief said.

Mentionable, Lawmaker Anwarul went to Kolkata on May 11 for medical treatment and he remained untraced since May 14.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on May 22 said the MP was brutally killed at a flat in New Town, near Kolkata.

Anar’s daughter Dorin filed a case with the Sher-e-Bangla Police Station May 22 following the death.

A Dhaka court on Friday granted an 8-day remand to three accused arrested in connection with the murder.
