
Late Professor Arefin Siddique’s memorial meeting held at DU

A memorial meeting in honour of Dr. A. A. M. S. Arefin Siddique, former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University and former Professor of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, was held on Wednesday at the Professor Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium of DU.The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism organised the memorial meeting.Vice-Chancellor of the university Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Mamun Ahmed, the younger brother of Professor Arefin Siddique, Atik Ullah Siddique, Professor Sakhawat Ali Kha, departmental teachers, students, and alumni shared their memories during the memorial meeting.Vice-Chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan said, "Before making any decision, among those I consulted, Arefin Siddique was one. I made some important personal decisions after consulting him. At one point, I was thinking about leaving the university. The decision to stay at the university was made after consulting two people, and one of them was Arefin Siddique. I express my gratitude for his contribution.""Administratively, as a colleague and personal advisor, Arefin Siddique's role touched me. He was a true gentleman. Anyone, whether a friend or foe would understand this if they think logically."The university authorities will always maintain communication with Arefin Siddique’s family, he said.Addressing the alumni of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, the Vice-Chancellor said, "If any initiative is taken to officially preserve the memory of the late Vice-Chancellor, I will support it sincerely. If any proposal is brought for institutional recognition, we will consider it."
