All the procedures for renewing her passport were quickly completed. Later the renewed Machine Readable Passport (MRP) was handed over to her representative on behalf of the BNP leader who is undergoing treatment.

It is learnt that the initiative to renew Khaleda Zia's passport was taken in June 2021. At that time, the process of taking him abroad for treatment was finalized. The passport department quickly renewed the passport and prepared it for delivery, but in the end, an instruction came from the government not to hand over the passport to Khaleda Zia. Even later his renewed passport was cancelled. Immediately after the fall of the Awami League government, Khaleda Zia, who was under treatment in the hospital, was released.

Later, when instructions were given to renew his passport, the Passport Department prepared it for handing over within 2 hours on Tuesday. However, nothing concrete has been said about this from BNP yet.

Director of Immigration and Passport Department Toufiqul Islam Khan told the media that Khaleda Zia's renewed passport has been handed over to her representative. Instructions in this regard come from higher levels. Basically, the initiative of fast passport printing was taken immediately after this. His passport was handed over on Tuesday afternoon.

He said it was not possible to take Khaleda Zia's biometrics (security features including fingerprints, eyeballs and face photo) for the e-passport due to illness. Due to this, her old MRP (Machine Readable Passport) has been renewed. It has a duration of 5 years. It will expire on August 5, 2029. He said that his brother Shamim Iskandar's name is in it as an emergency contact.
