
JS polls campaign going on in full-swing in Sylhet

National Election campaign for the upcoming 12th general election is going on in full swing at all Six constituencies of Sylhet district as the candidates are conducting mass contact programs in their own constituencies to woo the voters.
The candidates of different political parties including Awami League (AL) Jatiya party, Trinomul BNP, Bangladesh Nationalist Movement, JSD and Islami Oikko Jote and independents are seen conducting their election campaigns with posters and leaflets to convince the voters for casting their votes in favor of the candidates from early morning to midnight.
The candidates accompanied by their party workers, leaders and supporters are seen meeting the voters, exchanging greetings with them and seeking their support.
District Election Officer Md Jillur Rahman said, a total of 34 candidates are on the election race for all the Six constituencies in the district for the upcoming national election scheduled to be held on January7.
Visiting different areas of the Six constituencies of the district for the last two days saw that all the five constituencies of the district got a new look with posters and banners of different candidates.
A festive mood has already generated among the voters as all the candidates along with their supporters have started conducting their election campaign including holding election meetings and bringing out election processions in all the five constituencies peacefully.
Many voters said main competition is likely to be taken place between the candidates of Bangladesh Awami League and other party candidates including independent candidates in all the constituencies.
In Sylhet-1 (Sadar- City corporation) constituency, there are five candidates. But, the issue of main competition between AL nominated candidate Former minister D. A K Abdul Momen is being discussed.
In Sylhet -2 (Bishwanath -Osmaninagar) constituency six candidates are contesting for the seat.But, the main competition is likely to be held between the AL nominated candidate former MP, Sylhet District AL President Shofiqur Rahman Chawdhury and former MP Mukabbir khan and Ahia Chawdhury.
In Sylhet -3 (Dakshinsurma-Fenchuganj- Balaganj) constituency, six candidates are on the election race for the seat. But, contest would be held between the AL nominated candidate Former MP Habibur Rahman Habib and independent candidates BMA GS Dr Ahteshamul Haque Chawdhury Dulal.
In Sylhet-4 (Gowainghat -Companiganj-Jaint), Three candidates are contesting for the seat. The main contest would be taken place between the AL nominated candidate Former Expatriates welfare minister Imran Ahmad and Trinomul BNP Candidate Journalist Abul Hussain.
In Sylhet-5 (Jakiganj - Khanaighat) constituency, Seven candidates are contesting in the constituency. The maim contest would be held between the AL nominated candidate, Sylhet City AL President FF Masuk uddin Ahmed Hussain and independent candidate Mawlana Husam uddin Chawdhury.
In Sylhet- 6 (Golapganj - Beanibazar) constituency, Six candidates are contesting in the constituency. The maim contest would be held between the AL nominated candidate former Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid and Trinomul BNP Candidate Shamser Mubin Chowdhury, independent candidate Sarwar Hussain. Deputy Commissioner and also the retuning officer of Sylhet district Sheikh Rasel Hasan told that congenial and peaceful election atmosphere is now prevailing in all the five constituencies of the district.
He also informed that all the officials including election officers, executive magistrates, judicial magistrates officers and members of all the law-enforcing agencies are working sincerely following rules and regulations of the election commission for holding the upcoming parliamentary polls in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
