Joyous procession in Koyra over ban on Awami League activities

Abubakor Siddique, Koyra ( Khulna)

The interim government has banned all Awami League activities under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Leaders and activists of the Koyra Upazila Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Khulna held a joyous procession today, Monday, welcoming this decision.

The procession started at 11:30 am on Monday from in front of the Kopotaksha College in Koyra Upazila Sadar. While parading the main road of Koyra Sadar, the procession was seen chanting slogans like 'Awami League brokers, be careful, be careful' etc.

After the procession, a short rally was held at the Zero Point area of Koyra Sadar. At this time, the leaders and activists who came to the rally distributed sweets.

In a short rally, Abdullah Al Ghalib, member secretary of the Koyra Upazila Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said, "Our demand was to ban the Awami League after the July Uprising. After a long time, our demand has been fulfilled. Now, after the judicial process, the Awami League must be banned completely. Whoever assumes the role of the Awami League in the future will also be thrown into the dustbin of history."

Among others who spoke at the short rally were Imdadul Haque, the main organizer of the Koyra Upazila of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, Senior Joint Convener Shah Alam Kiron, Joint Convener Sultan Salauddin, the representative of the National Citizen Party, Advocate Abubakor Siddique, and the Koyra Upazila President of the Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, Billal Hossain, among others.

Advocate Md. Abubakar Siddique, the organizer of the Koyra National Citizen Committee, said at the rally that the banning of the Awami League is a big victory for Bangladesh.  Nine months after the July coup, the hopes and aspirations of the people have been reflected to some extent. The people of Bangladesh will decide which path Bangladesh will take in the future. Everyone must be aware so that no fascist force can create an unstable environment in the country in the future. They said that the July Declaration will be published as soon as possible.

Earlier, at 11 pm on May 10, the Advisory Council of the interim government banned all activities of the Awami League, including cyberspace, under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
