Two people, including the son of Daily Kalbela journalist Uthan Mondal, were kidnapped and ransom was demanded in Nazirpur, Pirojpur. The incident took place on Wednesday night in Dakshin Joypur village of Sriramkathi union of the upazila.

The two victims of the kidnapping are - journalist's son Utsab Mondal (15) and Babul Sheikh's son Sajjad Sheikh.

It is mentioned that Utsab Mondal is a class 10 student of Nazirpur Sirajul Haque Government Boys High School and Sajjad is a 2025 batch HSC examinee of Nazirpur Shaheed Zia College.

Journalist Uthan Mondal said that his son Utshab Mondal was going to Pirojpur on a motorcycle with his friend Sajjad Hossain on Wednesday night at around 8 pm when some miscreants knocked them unconscious near the Chauthai Mahal Steel Bridge on the Nazirpur-Pirojpur road. Later, they were taken to Shyamal Matar in South Jaipur and held them captive, demanding ransom from their guardians over mobile phones. They were later released after paying a ransom of Tk 40,000.

He further said that even after being released, they were in panic. However, when they were released, they heard some of the kidnappers calling each other by name. Based on that, the victims named some of the names.

According to the victims, Russell Sheikh (35), son of Anis Sheikh of Madhya Jaipur village, Faisal Mallick (28), son of Maruf Mallick of the same village, and Naeem Sheikh (30), son of Delwar Sheikh, are involved in the kidnapping. They are alleged to have been involved in kidnappings, extortion, drugs, theft and robbery in the area for a long time.

Nazirpur Police Station OC Md. Mahmud Al Farid Bhuiyan said that after receiving the information, a team of the District DB Police and the police station conducted a raid all night and rescued the kidnapped people on Thursday morning. However, none of those involved in the kidnapping could be arrested.
