Joint operation led by Coast Guard to curb piracy in Sundarbans

Bangladesh Coasr Guard has conducted joint operation 'Mangrove Shield ' to curb piracy in Sundarbans.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan gave this information on Sunday afternoon.
The press release said that under the direct direction of the Honorable Home Minister, Bangladesh Coast Guard is taking a strict stand against all pirates active in the Sundarbans region. As part of this, two special operations named “Operation Restore Peace in Sundarbans” and “Operation Mangrove Shield” are being conducted under the leadership of the Coast Guard.In continuation of this, a joint patrol was conducted in the area adjacent to the Sundarbans on Sunday by the Coast Guard, Navy, Police and RAB. In addition, in addition to conducting public awareness activities about forest robberies among the people associated with and dependent on the Sundarbans, round-the-clock patrol activities have been strengthened to maintain regular communication and ensure their safety. Coast Guard surveillance in the rivers and canals inside and around the Sundarbans has been increased significantly compared to the past. As a result, forest robbery has decreased significantly in these areas.It is worth noting that in the past year, a total of 40 active members of various bandit groups, including Karim Sharif, Nana Bhai, Chhota Suman, Alif, Dulabhai and Asabur Bahini, have been arrested in regular operations by the Coast Guard. During this time, 43 domestic and foreign firearms, 10 rounds of live ammunition, 186 rounds of live cartridges, 299 rounds of blank cartridges, 2 hand grenades and a large amount of domestic weapons were recovered, and several hideouts of the bandit groups have been identified and destroyed. In addition, 37 fishermen, two tourists and one resort owner have been rescued and handed over to their families.
the Coast Guard will continue such joint operations in the future to completely free the Sundarbans from bandits.
