JnU teachers to Mahfuz Alam : If revolution failed, you wouldn't be adviser

JnU Correspondent

"If the revolution had failed, you wouldn't be an adviser. now, your attitude resembles that of a fascist." addressing Information and Broadcasting Adviser Mahfuz Alam, Jagannath University Teachers' Association General Secretary Prof Dr. Rais Uddin made this  remark during a press briefing at 5:30 pm on Thursday while participating in the ongoing sit-in program.

Dr. Rais Uddin said, "In a discrimination-free country, the police cannot attack teachers and students of a public university. Such an incident must be properly investigated. Addressing Advisor Mahfuz, he added, "This advisor is supposed to be one of the students' representatives. We expected him to understand and support us. But he did not. If the revolution had failed, you wouldn't be an advisor. Now your attitude resembles that of a fascist. No one has the power to forcefully remove us from this place."

He further stated, "If our demands are met, we will return to the campus within two minutes. Until the demands are fulfilled, we will continue to stay here. Officers, employees, and students are all present, and the campus remains shut down automatically."

For the second consecutive day, students of Jagannath University (JnU) have been demonstrating centrally to press for their four-point demand. To strengthen the movement, teachers and students traveled from the campus to the Kakrail intersection by bus. Today, around 30 buses transported teachers and students to the protest site.

During the protest, students chanted slogans such as "We Want Accommodation, Not Deprivation," "No Budget Cuts," "Justice for the Attack," and "If You Want Blood, Take Blood, But Give Jagannath Hall." Despite the continuous 30-hour sit-in at Kakrail, students remained determined, even braving the rain.

The four-point demands include introduce accommodation scholarships from the fiscal year 2025-26 for 70% of Jagannath University students ; approve the proposed full budget of Jagannath University for the fiscal year 2025-26 without any cuts; approval  and implement the second campus project of Jagannath University in the next ECNEC meeting and ensuring  a proper investigation into the unprovoked police attack on students on May 14 and take exemplary action against the responsible officers.
