JnU students demand swift action on second campus, bureaucratic delays slated

Students involved in the movement at Jagannath University have expressed that they no longer wish to face bureaucratic complications and red tape in the progress of the second campus.

On Sunday, they made this statement at a press conference held at the university's Language Martyrs' Rafique Bhaban.

In their written statement, one of the protesting students, AKM Rakib, said: "It has been more than one and a half months since our movement began regarding the second campus, but we have not seen any progress. Today (Sunday), we are asking the administration for updates.”

“We were informed that the university administration wanted to appoint a Project Director urgently, but due to objections, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has clearly stated that the appointment will follow the university’s own regulations," he also said.

The university administration also informed that they had already sent a letter to the UGC regarding the second campus and that the UGC would forward this letter to the Ministry of Education in a few days.

The administration assured that the matter is being closely monitored and that a swift decision would be made. Additionally, they said that the land acquisition process has been completed.

At the press conference, the students expressed that it was evident from the university administration's statements that bureaucratic complications were emerging again, which was the very reason for their movement.

They pointed out that they did not want to face any bureaucratic delays or be confronted with red tape. They also mentioned that if a clear decision on the second campus was not made within the week, they would consult with the general students of the university and take the necessary actions.

Present at the press conference on behalf of the students were AKM Rakib, Raihan Hasan Rabbi, Rashed, Tawhid, Shaharul, Rakibul, and Imruz.
