JnU student dies in Bailey Road fire

A student of Jagannath University (JnU) died in the deadly fire that ripped through a commercial building housing a number of restaurants in the capital’s Bailey Road on Thursday night.

Md Nurul Islam (Session 2018) was a student of the Management Studies department in the 13th batch of the MBA evening course. He lived at Babubazar in Dhaka.

As soon as the news spread in the media, relatives and friends came to the spot since he remained missing.

Friends said the body of Nurul was identified at the Dhaka Medical College morgue by his student identity card.

Jagannath University Vice-Chancellor Prof Sadeka Halim and Treasurer Prof Md Humayun Kabir Chowdhury expressed deep shock and sorrow at his death.

The university family prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.

The vice-chancellor and the treasurer also mourned the deaths of other people in the fire incident at the Green Cozy Cottage Shopping Mall, which housed restaurants, including Kacchi Bhai.

The death toll from the incident has reached 46, including two students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
