On August 9, at a function at the Rangpur Zilla Shilpakala Academy, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir MP made a comment about the political decisions and voting rights of the people of Rangpur. Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh Rangpur Metropolitan organized a protest rally with members of parliament from Rangpur region at the initiative of Rangpur Metropolitan on Tuesday evening.

The press conference held at the hall of the local Rangpur Zilla Council Community Center was presided over by Rangpur Metro Jamaat Ameer and Central Working Council member Vice Principal ATM Azom Khan. Rangpur Sadar-3 constituency MP Prof Mahbubur Rahman Belal read a written statement on behalf of the members of parliament at the press conference. Also present at the press conference were Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Central Working Council member and Rangpur-Dinajpur region assistant director Professor Maulana Momtaz Uddin.

Prof Mahbubur Rahman Belal MP said in his speech that supporting a political party other than BNP over Romangal and that as a result Rangpur is lagging behind in the desired development is in no way acceptable.

He said that such a statement by an experienced political leader like Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is against the constitutional rights declared in the constitution. His statement is a reshuffle of one-party rule.

He also said that one of the responsibilities of a democratic government is to ensure balanced development of all regions of the country. In view of that, the people of Rangpur expect the respected Minister to announce a special development plan to take the backward Rangpur region forward.

In this protest rally, the members of parliament of the Rangpur region elected from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, including Rangpur -1 MP Professor Raihan Siraji, Rangpur- 5 MP Professor Golam Rabbani, Rangpur-6 MP Maulana Nurul Amin, as well as members of parliament from Nilphamari and Gaibandha districts were present.
