A clash has broken out between supporters of Jamaat-e-Islami and the BNP at Dhaka’s Pallabi Bihari camp.
Several rounds of blank firing and cocktails were also reported during the incident on Saturday around 4pm, said Pallabi Police chief Hasan Basir.
“There was a chase and a clash between the two sides over the installation of a water pump there,” he said.
Police said the clash involved around 50 to 60 people led by local Jamaat member known only as Manik and 200 to 250 people led by BNP supporter Sohel, also known by a single name, and Bihari organisation leader Sadaqat Khan Fakku.
During the clash, five rounds of blank firing were reported from both sides, police said.
Asked whether anyone was injured, Hasan said: “No information of injury has reached us yet.”
He said the situation was currently normal and additional police had been deployed at the scene.
