Jaintapur Model Thana police conducted an anti-smuggling operation and arrested one person along with two barque boats and a Noah car used for smuggling a large quantity of Indian chocolate.
Police sources said that on Thursday at 3:25 pm, based on a tip-off, a patrol team led by OC of Jaintapur Model Police Station conducted a raid behind the building of one Siraj Mia Fisher in Alubagan area of Jaintapur Union of Jaintapur Upazila and on the east bank of Naljuri Khansi River and seized a large quantity of Indian chocolates of various brands. During this, two boats carrying Indian chocolates on the river and a silver-colored Noah car (Dhaka Metro-G-14-5846) brought for transporting on the road, along with one smuggler, were arrested.
The arrested person is Md. Abdus Samad (25), son of Md. Hanif Mia of Naljuri village in Gowainghat upazila.
The arrested person said in the initial interrogation that they were bringing various types of goods from India to Bangladesh through the Khansindi river using barque boats. Taking advantage of the opportunity, they have been transporting goods in private cars, nohagaris, lagunas, DI trucks, CNG vehicles prepared from the east to different places of the Narjuri river. The arrested person further said that during the police operation, Md. Mostafa Mia (40), son of Amir Hossain, of Lakherpar Asampara (Chailakhel 8th block) village of Gowainghat upazila, along with another unidentified smuggler, escaped. They said that they were illegally bringing Indian chocolates into the country by evading the customs/taxes of the Bangladesh government and transporting them by boat and nohagaris for sale.
Jaintapur Model Police Station OC Abul Bashar Md. Badruzzaman said, based on a secret information, 2 barque boats and 1 nohagari used for smuggling a large amount of Indian chocolates have been seized. A case has been filed against three people including the arrested person. Our operation is ongoing. The arrested person will be handed over to the court.
