Rajshahi District Commissioner Shamim Ahmed said, many of us have housekeepers in our homes. We can make them literate by teaching them little by little. It is our moral duty to teach every 12-13 year old boy or girl at home to write her own name at least for 10-15 minutes a day. It will be useful to be able to write this name at the time of marriage, account opening etc.

He said these things in the president's speech at the discussion meeting organized in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner on the occasion of International Literacy Day-2024 on Sunday . The district administration and district non-formal education bureau organized the discussion meeting.

Deputy Commissioner said, let's realize the importance of literacy on Literacy Day and make efforts so that the next generation can be like human beings. With the touch of modernity, our children have entered the era of mobile phones, many are addicted. Irrespective of which religion we belong to, we will educate the children in religious education. They must be educated in higher education, but it must be ensured that their human values are developed.

Highlighting the topic of teacher abuse in recent times, Shamim Ahmed said, we are noticing that teachers are being abused in different places. If a teacher is personally responsible for his actions, there are guidelines and a process in place from the government to take strict action against him. You bring these inconsistencies to our attention. All officials of the education department including the district commissioner are ready to take action against those responsible.

He also said that the teachers are respectable. 99 percent of teachers are doing a good job. Let us not destroy the honor of the entire teaching society because of two people. It also applies to government officials and employees. I hope those of us with young children will respect teachers.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner commented that the students' achievements in the anti-discrimination student movement are many. Officials of various departments, students of various schools including Sudheejan and members of print and electronic media were present in the event. Earlier, a colorful rally was organized on the occasion of the day at the District Commissioner's office premises. This year the theme of the day is 'Promoting Multilingual Education: Literacy for Reconciliation and Peace'.
