Interpol issues red notice against Sheikh Hasina

Court Correspondent

The International Criminal Police Organisation, commonly known as Interpol, has issued a red notice against former Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, the main accused in the July-August genocide case.

International Crimes Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam gave this information on Sunday.

He said that the government wants to bring back Hasina and other fugitive accused by issuing a red notice through the Interpol.

Earlier on 10 November, Tajul Islam wrote to the Inspector General of Police to take steps to issue an Interpol red notice to arrest Sheikh Hasina and fugitive Awami League leaders who fled to India in the International Crimes Tribunal case.

On 17 October, the International Crimes Tribunal issued arrest warrants against Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader, among 46 others, in separate cases alleging genocide and crimes against humanity committed in July-August.

Sheikh Hasina fled the country to India on 5 August in the face of a mass uprising by students and the public against discrimination. Indian authorities said he has been staying there since then.
