Injured protesters block Shahbagh, demand proper treatment

People injured during anti-government protests against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s regime blocked Shahbagh intersection in Dhaka on Thursday (Jan 2) evening, demanding proper medical care.
The group, receiving treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and other hospitals, took to the streets around 6:45 PM and occupied the road for about 30 minutes before dispersing.
Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Khalid told Banglanews that the situation returned to normal shortly after the protesters left. Traffic on both sides of the road has resumed.
Many of those injured in the July-August uprising suffered severe injuries, including loss of limbs or eyesight, and are under treatment at various hospitals.
However, they claimed that they are not receiving adequate care and have reported instances of mistreatment at medical facilities. Similar protests have occurred earlier, as patients voiced their grievances regarding poor medical services and unprofessional behavior by staff.
