Inflationary pressure shatters people’s peace: Fakhrul

Staff Correspondent

Blaming the government for its utter failure to contain the price spiral of commodities, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the countrymen have been sandwiched by the abnormal price hike of daily essentials.

“The government has been unleashing a monstrous rule for the last 15 years. It destroyed the country’s political atmosphere and economy by doing so,” Fakhrul said while addressing a programme at the National Press Club in Dhaka on Monday.

The prices of power and energy, vegetables and rice have reached an unbelievable level, parents cannot feed their children eggs and milk while the meat went out of reach of the commoners, Fakhrul said.

Fakhrul said that commodity prices in Bangladesh are higher than in other countries, highlighting that the prices of soybean and palm oil in the country remain higher than those in India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam.

“We are passing through a critical time as the government is hanging on to power forcibly by using all state organs, including police and administration,” he said.
