Sports Desk

Expat Bangladeshi sprinter Imranur Rahman stormed into the preliminary qualifying round of the 100m sprint in the World Athletics Championship in Budapest, Hungary on Saturday.

Imranur ranked top out of seven sprinters in his Heat 3 while ended fourth out of 29 in overall rankings with a timing of 10.50 sec in the preliminary round of this event.

It is the highest ever achievement for Bangladesh athletes in world Championships so far. However, Imranur will now compete in the first round of the main stage which will take place tonight at 11.45 pm (BST).

The championship, organised by International Association of Athletics Federations, also provides sprinter wild cards for the next Olympic entry.

But as per their standard timing, the sprinters who are able to finish their run with timing of 10sec will get this quota.

Imranur, who is currently placing 138th in the men’s 100m world rankings, made a personal record of 10.25 sec in Asian Athletics Championships in July in Bangkok, Thailand.

Meanwhile, Imranur clinched first ever gold for the nation in 10th Asian Indoor Athletics Championship his own new record of 6.59s in men’s 60m held in February in Astana, Kazakhstan.
