
Illegal sand extraction in Rangpur: Two fined, machine seized

Two people have been fined for illegally extracting sand from the Ghagat River in Ward No. 31 of Rangpur metropolis. The mobile court of the district administration conducted the operation on Monday.
It is learned that two people named Reza Kibria and Parag were extracting sand illegally from the Ghagat River. Upon receiving the information, a team of Sadar Police Station led by the District Executive Magistrate conducted an operation at the spot. At that time, various equipment including machines used for sand extraction were seized.
The Executive Magistrate conducting the operation collected a fine of Tk 50,000 on the spot for illegal sand extraction. In this regard, Saiful Islam, in-charge of Rangpur District Sadar Police Station, said that regular cases have been registered against the accused for illegal sand extraction. The seized machines and equipment have been brought to the police station.
The administration said that such operations will continue to protect the environment and public interest.
