ICC moves Women’s T20 World Cup from Bangladesh to UAE
Sports Desk
The International Cricket Council, or ICC, has announced that the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, originally set to be hosted by Bangladesh, will now be held in the United Arab Emirates.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from Oct 3 to 20 in Dubai and Sharjah.
ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice said: “It is a shame not to be hosting the Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh as we know the Bangladesh Cricket Board would have staged a memorable event.
He acknowledged the efforts of the BCB to make the event possible in Bangladesh but noted that travel advisories from several participating teams' governments made it unfeasible.
Despite the venue change, Bangladesh will retain the hosting rights for a future ICC global event.
“We look forward to taking an ICC global event to Bangladesh in the near future,” Allardice said.
