Journalists working in Shibchar Upazila staged a human chain and protest against the threats to kill Mir Imran, Madaripur District Correspondent of Daily Ajker Darpan, The Country Today and Bangla FM, for reporting illegal sand lifting and smuggling of sand from Balu Mahal in Shibchar of Madaripur.

On Monday at 11:00 am, the journalists of various print and electronic media gathered at 71 Chatter of the upazila and held this human chain and protest program.

The human chain and protest ended the program at Shivchar 71 Chattar and circled the 71st road through Pathasabha and ended at 71 Chattar again.

Meanwhile, the media workers said that various media workers including Mir Imran, the district representative of Darpan newspaper, made a report titled "smuggling and selling sand from Balu Mahal".

After the publication of the report, the accused Mokles Hawladar became enraged and threatened to kill journalist Mir Imran on the mobile phone. The mass media workers of Manbandhan demanded speedy trial by bringing Mokles Howladar under the law. A GDO has been made at Shibchar police station against Balukheko Mokles who threatened to kill the journalist.

The journalists present demanded that 'Balu Kheko Mokhlesh Hawladar' must be immediately arrested and the freedom of the media should be ensured.

Journalists also said that the media is an independent profession, and sand thieves like Hawladar are not exempted from trying to block that profession. By highlighting the true facts through the writings of journalists, dishonest people like Moklech Howladar will be exposed.
