Residents of remote Char areas have formed a human chain in Faridpur demanding justice for the land grabbers who have been subjected to forced land grabbers, torture and harassment for a long time.

Residents of remote Char Salehpur and Munshir Bazar villages of Char Harirampur Union of Char Bhadrasan Upazila of the district formed a human chain in front of the Faridpur Press Club on Wednesday.noon.

More than a hundred locals, including men and women, participated in it.

The victim families complained that Ibrahim Khan, Aziz Khan, Moslem Khan, Salam Khan and many others, led by Kabir Khan, an influential resident of Charsalehpur area and close associate of former MP Mujibur Rahman Nixon Chowdhury, have occupied 1,000 acres of land of about 400 families in Char. Many of them have ancestral lands as well as government settlement lands. They also alleged that crops are being forcibly harvested at various times. When they protested against this, they have been subjected to torture at various times. Many of them have lost their homes due to erosion of the Padma River and are living elsewhere. Molayem Khan, a resident of Charsalehpur village, complained in the human chain that from 2016 to 2024, the land of hundreds of ordinary people in Char has been occupied under the leadership of Kabir Khan under the influence of the Awami League. When we protested against this encroachment, we were threatened, tortured and tortured. Today, they are embezzling thousands of bighas of land. As soon as we go to that land, we are being beaten up with their lathi-powered army. Hundreds of people in Charsalehpur are living a subhuman life of starvation and malnutrition due to these land grabbers. Our demand is that these land grabbers should be arrested immediately and the land of our helpless people should be returned. Victims of land grabbers, including Sheikh Moazzem's wife Laili Begum, Nargis Begum, Tara Mia and many others, spoke in this human chain. After the human chain, they took out a protest procession and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and Faridpur Press Club.
