Human chain of Globe Shopping Center traders demanding transfer of shops

Staff Correspondent

The traders of Globe Shopping Center located in front of Dhaka College in the city have formed a human chain for implementation of various demands including transfer of ownership of their shops and registration.

The human chain was formed in front of Globe Shopping Center on Sunday afternoon.

At this time, the businessmen demanded immediate resolution of the ongoing dispute between the land owner and the developer company Globe Construction Limited.

Aminul Islam, a businessman and former secretary of the market committee of Globe Shopping Center said, "We are marginal traders. We have been living in uncertainty and insecurity for a long time. Globe Construction is not registering the ownership of our shop.

They kept the shop registration suspended for almost 20 years by showing the building as under construction. We are threatened with eviction if we demand registration. We have even had several terrorist attacks.

Saidul Alam, one of the traders in the market, said that the owner of Globe Shopping Center was the late Zahirul Haque, a famous photojournalist.

After his death his children inherited the land. In 1999, there was an agreement with Globe Construction Limited for the construction of the market, but they have not yet explained the dues to the land owners. Innocent businessmen are victims of disputes between land owners and developer companies. We want an immediate end to this dispute.
